Basil Moncy (b. 2000) is a visual artist from Kerala, India, working with photography, video and book-making. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Government Engineering College, Kottayam and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Photography Design at the National Institute of Design, Gandhinagar. Before studying photography, Basil worked as a UI designer for a year.

His work moves between documentary and fiction, often rooted in landscapes and personal histories. His practice combines both digital and analog photography, along with moving images, to explore stories that are intimate, emotional and reflective. His latest project looks at his own fading Christian faith, shaped by his upbringing and attempts to understand what is lost.

In earlier projects, he created a short docu-fiction film about a character trying to escape a collapsing world, shot in his home region where the Western Ghats are being destroyed for a highway and tunnel. Another project followed the construction of the Gujarat Metro Rail, documenting the lives of migrant workers and the changing cityscape.

He is also deeply interested in writing, cinema and fiction, which influences the tone and structure of his visual storytelling. Across all his projects, he uses storytelling as a way to connect memory, landscape and the emotional lives of people in transition.
